B’nai Israel Sisterhood Sukkot Luncheon Menu

For their 2017 Sukkot Luncheon, the President of the Sisterhood of Congregation B’nai Israel in Gainesville, FL asked me to suggest less-commonly known Sukkot foods that they could serve at their annual event. I curated this selection of menu items for the Sisterhood to choose from, and later provided specific recipes upon their request.

B’nai Israel Jewish Food Festival

Sunday, February 26, 2017

B’nai Israel Jewish Festival was a celebration of the glory days of the Jewish-American Delicatessen, from 1920s-1960. It featured foods showcasing the very best of the Jewish Deli in that now bygone era, and was designed as a family and community affair where  people of all ages, all faiths, all life-styles were welcome to come and have a good time!

As the Director of the Festival, I was responsible for all phases of the:

  • Organization and planning
  • Funding and ticket sales
  • Menu selection and planning
  • Food/wine/beer purchases
  • Catering arrangements
  • Facilities management
  • Setup and cleanup

Festivals are complex activities requiring the full commitment of a congregation or group, not only to participate but to contribute to its success. They require an attentive director who has authority over all phases of the Festival. And they require time – plenty of lead time must be allowed to make sure as many issues and matters and problems can be anticipated and addressed. If your congregation or Jewish organization is interested in holding a Jewish Food Festival for the community, my experience and expertise can enrich and boost the success of the event.
